Competition, Comfort & You

Staying comfortable and comparing yourself to others is a surefire way to keep you in the same place.

We all choose to stay in false comfort sometimes.  Sometimes this appears in the following things we say to ourself:

·      “I’ll start tomorrow.”

·      “ I have to do this for my kids instead, I just don’t have time.”

·       “It doesn’t really matter, I’ll never be as good as __________(insert other person/place/comparison).”

·      “I don’t know.”

These statements allow us to trick ourselves out of the scary, vulnerable thing that may just perpetuate us towards growth, movement, and reaching our goals. We use both our external circumstances and roles along with comparison to others to justify these statements and make them feel real.  However, we are only ever truly, like on a granular level, in competition with ourselves.

When we begin to look at the reason why starting something and moving towards growth can be terrifying, intimidating, or feel impossible, we may just be able to find the true nature behind the choice in the perceived comfort. Therapy, journaling, and getting honest with yourself can help you uncover just exactly what is holding you back and can give you the foundation to continue to grow.

Bottom line…you are your biggest competition, but you can also be your biggest advocate if you learn to be uncomfortable sometimes.
